Please don't tell my Mom, but I just ate and Cinnamon Twist Donut from Shipleys donuts. After a twenty second burst of hyperactivity and work.... I.... am.... crashing.
Good thing I have some iced tea to pep me up. Okay, so the ice has melted. I have tea to wake me up. Change the Pandora station from Classic Country to something a little more up beat. Fingers now moving, Buffett comes on, very nice I can get something accomplished. Not thinking about summer and the end of school, cold PBR or the pool at all.
"Sigh" Still locked in the windowless closet I call an office.
Anyone else have these days? I know it is Friday but this is ridiculous. In education I call this the end of the year. This is the time when school is ending, students are getting excited and doing less work, while teachers look like zombies as they clean up rooms and worry that everyone will fail finals and they may be asked to teach summer school.
For me this is the time when I have to evaluate technology to keep, get rid of and store. Inventory takes on a life of its own and as is the case for many years now I won't be bursting forth from the doors of the school that last day. (Schools Out by Alice Cooper from Dazed and Confused)

As an instructional designer this is the time of year when we have to start working even harder. In addition to all of the above craziness we have to put into action all the plans we have made during the year for professional development.
This summer will see me as a producer and director for staff development videos. I will be building, creating and opening a new chapter in my districts efforts to become more efficient with developing the best educators we can. Yes, I am excited and ready to release my creative side with some new ideas and to start building my vision for professional development but on a Friday morning, post donut with hot iced tea I am lethargic.
You see I remember the good old days. The days when the teachers worked that day after the students and then went home for three months to be free to do what they want. I remember being told by Doc to just dump all of our paper out of our locker onto the floor the last day, when I stayed in Perrysville for the city wide water fight the last day, or even when I would get in the old Topaz (don't miss that car) and head to the field to get in the 2805 to work the fields because planting was running late.

Not our 2805 but close enough to make my ears ring a little bit. Derek and Scott can vouch for me. Our Dad's can't hear us so they are our proof. Joel- Please don't start the IH, MF, JD argument. Go eat some grapes.
Education today demands that we work nearly the whole year. Times have changed and in order to meet the high expectations of training an expert staff we can't take our summers off. I may get a Friday to be a little slow or a couple of weeks in the summer to visit the old farm yet I can promise you I will be putting in ten hour days to be prepared for the next year.
